How to make an appointment with a doctor… The practice runs an Advanced Access appointment system. This means that you telephone (or call in) on the day you want to see a doctor, and every attempt will be made to identify a convenient time for you – some advance appointments can be made during the week using a booking website.   If you wish to use this facility please speak to one of our receptionist who will allocate the necessary passwords etc.

The appointment line(s) are open each day from 8.00am for patients to make appointments throughout the day. Please see surgery and website noticeboards for weekly rota of doctor availability.   We have noticed that patients are phoning in higher numbers on a Monday, there should not be a need for this as we have sufficient appointments available throughout the week.  We also have some pre-bookable appointments available on a Saturday morning between 8.30-12.30.  These cannot be made on the day so please phone the surgery during the week or book on line using your access password which you can obtain from a receptionist.

"Early Bird" Session…. We have a small number of "early" appointments available for patients unable to attend later in the day eg patients working away from area. To access these appointments please attend the surgery at 8.00am, reporting to the reception desk where you will be allocated an appointment time.

To ease the pressure on morning surgeries we ask patients that can make later appointments to do so.

How to make an appointment with a nurse…

If you wish to see a nurse you will need to make an appointment. Unlike the doctors these can be made 2 weeks in advance. The nurses run a range of clinics for asthma, heart disease, diabetes, foreign travel, menopause counselling, contraceptive reviews,  childhood immunisations and minor illness.

We have a daily blood-taking clinic, run by a phlebotomy trained health care assistant.

It might be that you have a concern or query that you feel does not require a face to face consultation. If this is the case you can telephone the surgery on 01487 822230 to ask a doctor or nurse to phone you back. If you would like a telephone call please request this before 11.00am.

If you are unsure about who you should see, please discuss with the appointment clerk, who will identify the most appropriate person for you to see.

Home Visits…

Please come to the surgery if at all possible. Visits are reserved for seriously ill or housebound patients. If you are too ill to attend the surgery then please telephone as early as possible, and certainly before 11.00am (when the doctors plan their rounds), if you feel you need a home visit.

Arrangements for Family Planning Services…

We currently run two family planning clinics a week - appointments only. If however you require emergency contraception please contact the surgery and an appointment will be allocated.

Emergency out-of-hours calls….

A doctor is always available to deal with emergency calls. The surgery is part of the Huntingdon GP Co-Opereative for out-of-hours calls. This means that from 6pm to 8am on weekdays and from 12noon Saturday until 8am on Monday patients should phone the surgery 01487 822230 and calls will automatically be transferred to the Emergency On-Call Service. This service is located at Hinchingbrooke Hospital in the Emergency Treatment Centre. Please be advised that car parking charges do apply – the current charge is £2.60 (2008).  You are advised to contact the surgery for all general enquiries during the normal working day as the out-of-hour arrangements are for emergencies only.  On Saturday mornings there is a similar emergency service operating locally, accessible by telephoning the surgery number.  Please note they CANNOT issue repeat prescriptions, you must contact the surgery during the working week.

Additionally the surgery will be closed on occasional weekday afternoons throughout the year for staff training. Full emergency cover will be provided (as detailed above).

You are advised to contact the surgery for all general enquiries during the normal working day as the out-of-hour arrangements are for emergencies only.

Repeat Prescriptions….

Please note that 48 hours notice is needed for collection WEEKDAYS ONLY 8am - 6pm. We would encourage patients not to telephone the surgery to make their prescription request, but to use one of the following methods:- fax, e-mail, post (addressed stamped envelope), or direct with a local chemist. Both branches of Lloyds Chemists in Ramsey and Ward's of Warboys offer a collection service. Please ask for further details.

Medicals..If you need a medical examination for insurance purposes, HGV etc, please leave your contact details with a receptionist (01487 822230). On receipt of your name, address, telephone number, preference for day and time, the surgery will get back to you to make an appointment.

Private Fees….Although we have no private patients we do charge a fee for a variety of services outside our NHS work. These include certain medical examinations, private certificates and passport applications.

Tetanus Injections… Recommended for all school leavers. This normally represents your fifth such injection, providing life-long immunity.

Influenza Vaccinations… The practice holds annual immunisation sessions, usually starting in October each year. We actively promote this vaccination to all our over 65 year old patients, as well as those of any age with asthma, diabetes and heart, chest and kidney disease.

Dates and times of flu sessions will be available from September via the surgery and website notice board.

If you are aged 65yrs and over, and do not wish to have an annual injection, then please let the surgery know and we will amend your records so that you do not receive a reminder.

We have a Practice Complaints Procedure... Our practice manager will give you further information. Our aim is to deliver the highest possible standard of service and we try to deal swiftly with any problems that may occur.

We also welcome comments and suggestions as to how improvements can be made.

When you move or change your telephone number - please let us know. It is essential that our records are kept up to date. Patients moving outside the practice area are encouraged to register with a new practice close to their new home.
